Interpersonal Support Group 10 weeks 9/11/09
INTERPERSONAL SUPPORT GROUP
(Closed group).
A 10 week (2 hrs per week + dinner) self-exploration group.
This interpersonally-oriented support group provides an opportunity for participants to meet in a safe, contained, respectful and creative setting in order to explore issues of personal importance. The group setting provides the space for participants to share their life-stories, concerns, longings and joy in a supportive and facilitated environment.
The group will utilize a variety of methods as a way of exploring personal themes and life concerns whilst encouraging group members to enter into respectful dialogue with each other.
In the process of the group participants can expect to:
- Enhance self-growth through developing awareness.
- Explore what shapes your personal world and relationships
- Uncover the enduring relational themes that shape your current relationships.
- Strengthen your capacity to be in relationship and have your needs met.
- Cultivate present-centredness and capacity to stay with what is happening now.
- Increase capacity for compassion, joy, personal strength and agency.
- Gain emotional and practical support within an interpersonal context.
- Have fun exploring personal issues creatively.
- Explore models of change and how to support change in your life.
- Make friendships and better understand human experience.
Research shows that an interpersonal exploration group provides an outstanding supportive and creative opportunity for self exploration and to build a foundation for the creation of ongoing healthy change in people’s lives.
An interpersonal support and exploration group is not your usual group where facilitators stand at the front of the room telling you what you need to do in your life. The aims, goals and objectives of this group will arise from the group member’s interests.
The facilitators will adopt a responsive and flexible approach to the group that is informed by the interests, needs and present life concerns of the participants and the emerging style of the group.
This group is a rare social laboratory in which honest interpersonal exploration is encouraged. This social situation provides a precious opportunity to learn many valuable things about how you are in the world through honest engagement with other members of the group. Through the exploration of authentic human contact you will discover pathways to more rewarding relationships with others in your life: both people you know already and people you are yet to meet.
